Helena process. Part 3/ Helena en proceso parte 3

Este es el dibujo un poco mas avanzado. Aún falta para terminarlo pero ya se ven los volúmenes en algunas zonas. Como ya he comentado en alguna ocasión dibujar algunas zonas oscuras al principio me ayuda tener una referencia para poder sombrear correctamente el resto del dibujo.


Here it is a little more advanced drawing. It isn't finished yet but  yu can see the volumes  in some areas. As I said I like to draw some dark areas at first steps of the work. It helps to have a reference to properly shade the rest of the drawing.

Las sombras le van dando vida al dibujo. Por ahora me parece que la cara es demasiado alargada pero hay que esperar a que avance la sombra de la mandíbula para saber si tengo que cambiar algo o es solo un efecto de la falta de sombras.


The shadows are giving her life. By now I think the face is too long but I must wait for progress in the shadow. I don't know if I have to change something or is it just an effect of the lack of shadows.

Helena-first step / Helena-primer paso

Aquí dejo los primeros trazos del dibujo en el que estoy trabajado. Aún queda bastante trabajo, incluso de encaje. Está hecho en un A4 y me he dado cuenta (tarde) que me he quedado corto en la elección del papel pero ya es tarde.


Here it is the first lines of the drawing I'm  working on. There remains much work. It's made in A4 and I realized (later) that I was wrong about the choice of the size of the paper but it is too late.

Me apetecía probar el efecto de pintar sobre un dibujo a lápiz para ver si el resultado merece la pena. He cogido un detalle es un dibujo ( que dejo abajo) y he probado. El color es digital. No me disgusta el resultado aunque no tengo claro que aporte algo. Cuando tenga un rato libre probaré con algún otro.



I wanted to test the effect of painting on a pencil drawing to see if the result is worth it. I took a drawing retail (from the draging on the bottom of this post) and I've tried.  I painted the picture digitally.  I do not dislike the result although If is better than the original drawing. I'll try with others drawings.

De vez en cuando voy haciendo bocetos por si en algún momento puedo hacer un dibujo mas grande. Muchos se quedan solo en eso, bocetos pero alguno lo acabo haciendo. A éste le queda todavía saber que luz le conviene y que puede llevar, una espada, escudo, armadura o algo tipo amazona bajo la capa, para que me interese seguir.

Sometimes I make sketches trying to look for a good idea to make a picture bigger. Some of them goes to the next step. For this one I still have to work on the suitable light and if she can carry a sword, shield, armor or something like a knight dress under the coat.

Tengo algunos retratos inacabados. Principalmente encargos comenzados pero que en un momento dado el cliente dejó de dar señales de vida (y por supuesto nunca pagó). No sabía que hacer con ellos así que los voy a ir colgando.

En este caso he pasado el dibujo por el filtro de photoshop para darle color y le he dado un poco de luz a los ojos. Como se puede ver, está en una primera fase (entre 2 y 3 horas de trabajo) pero suficiente como para ver los volúmenes.


I have some unfinished portraits. They are drawings I started but at some point the client ceased to give signs (and of course I never be paid). I didn't know what to do with them so I'm going to post them.

In this drawing I've colored it with a photoshop filter of color and I have given some light to the eyes. As can be seen, is in a first stage (2 to 3 hours of work) but enough to see the volumes.

Isabel's portrair / retrato de Isabela

Aquí dejo el retrato de Isabela que acabé hace no mucho. La calidad de la imagen no es muy buena ya que es una fotografía. Normalmente la suelo escanear. De todos  modos lo que intenté fue reflejar el pelo y los ojos que los tiene preciosos.

Here It is the portrait of Isabella that I finished some months ago. The image quality is not very good because it's a photograph.  Anyway I tried to draw the best I could her hair and eyes that are precious.

 Aquí dejo este dibujo que hice hice ya algún tiempo. Supongo que lo copiaría de alguna foto de calendario. Es bastante grande: 60x40 cms aprox y me gustó por el contraste que tiene. Antes dibujaba tanto el objeto principal como el fondo. Ahora prefiero centrar la vista en el objeto principal y directamente prescindir del fondo.

 Here It is a drawing that I made some time ago. I guess I would take the idea from some photo calendar. It is quite large: 60x40 cms approx and I liked the contrast it has. In the past I always drew the main subject and the background. Now I prefer to center the view on the main object without the background.
